Whisky Tasting is both an art as well as pleasure. Fun events are organized all over the world to give people opportunities to taste the finest drinks while they relax at evenings. There are certain basic things you ought to know before participating in one.
Whisky is a drink, which is meant more for nose than tongue. That’s why it is served in long elongated glasses that will carry the aroma straight in to nose. So you have to sniff first and enjoy the aroma before tasting it with your tongue. Swirl the whisky to release the aroma, sniff but not very close since the smell could be strong, and then taste it in the palate, first a little, rolling round your tongue, and then more, preferably with a little water because water unlocks the aroma better.
The various sorts of aroma might be associated with various things and increase the pleasurable sensation. Whisky can be dry or smooth, soft or hot, short, medium, and long. Your three senses involved are: visual, olfactory and gustatory.
Whisky Tasting is the analysis of the various kinds of drams, including old, rare and fine whisky. It is often done in groups for fun and cross-checking with each other. There is no quicker way to increase knowledge and learn about whisky than by actual tasting and exploring. This can be done spontaneously, at random, or with a tasting set with notes from experts.
Wherever this kind of event is held, it is very important that it should be organized well and all arrangements are proper. That all is in order. Because whisky is an alcoholic drink and preferably there should be no driving after the session. You have to enjoy the session in a responsible way. Here’s how!
Whisky Live Brisbane 2014 is organizing its Whisky Tasting event this year on Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd August at the Queensland Irish Club in Brisbane.
The heritage Tara Ballroom has both space and architecture to add to the mood. There will be a selection of the finest whiskies and all will be listed in the Expo Catalogue that will be handed out when you enter, for reference during and after the event.
Ticket holders can also get a copy via email, if they want. New this year will be an Old and Rare Whisky Bar to sample something special. There will be a small but impressive collection, either rare or old. They will be for sale in half-nip samples.
The bar area will have seating with time slots. Being responsible organizers, there will be Whisky Education Seminars this year, in addition, held in the evenings during the week before Whisky Live. These seminars will be conducted in small class sessions, offering tasting of 5-6 types of whiskies, to give in-depth information and the story behind each brand of whisky. Apart from the seminars, a raffle will be held for charity in which you could win great prizes – a fine collection of whiskies! The money will be donated to the Prostrate Cancer Foundation to help research a cure for this deadly disease. The raffle offers great prizes for a great cause. So Whisky Tasting can be fun, educative, and philanthropic!
